It has been a very busy quilt designing summer :) Do you wanna see what I’ve been doing with all my spare time? Champagne and Pearls is my latest pattern, and I am VERY excited about how it came out!
I will tell you I had a few face-palm moments with this one though! I usually start with an idea in my mind, then build a design board with a few inspirational images of the mood I’m trying to capture, I then head to the fabric store…
Well, that part went as planned. These are a few of the images I started with to set the tone. I really love that bedroom shot with all those different whites and that very pale blush pink. It’s light and dreamy, just like cherry blossoms (which were in full bloom when all this started).
I got all my blocks done and went to lay them out, anxious to see what I had already seen in my mind…. and I hated it! Here is the first rendering of what I had produced. The blocks are all the same; this was suppose to be my dreamy pale blush, and all I saw was blah! I mean, if Pepto-Bismol was a quilt this would be it.
I turned the blocks around to go light to dark instead of dark to light… It was better, but still, face-palm moment.
Back to the fabric store with a new plan to give this thing a personality. Each colorway uses six different fabrics shading light to dark. I chose turquoise and gray as complementing colors and, wow, this thing came to life!
Here it is on the longarm after I had finished the piecing. I wish I had taken a picture of my face at this point, I was beaming as the quilting was taking shape and the headache of extra piecing was a distant memory.
So the quilt is done and so is the pattern! And now it’s time to celebrate :) I am hoping you love it as much as I do. If you would like to make your own, you can get the pattern here for a celebration price of $7.00 for the next seven days (it will go up to the regular price of $10.00 after 9/24). This is not an exclusive offer, so please feel free to share this link with your quilting buddies! Also available on ETSY and CRAFTSY
If celebrating with pie is more your style (I hear ya!) that’s how I like to celebrate too, and that is exactly what we are doing tonight! A light and dreamy coconut cream pie to go with a light and dreamy quilt :) Please enjoy this fantastic recipe, and cheers to all the quilters!
